Festival history

Puppeteer Bert Plagman went to Pristina, Kosovo to work with children who had experienced the war. They all have unpleasant memories of that period. Eleven-year-old Vizar explains how his family was taken from the house by masked soldiers. The dog was shot dead and they were not allowed to take anything. Because of the war, Vizar could not go to the funeral of his best friend, who had been killed by a shell burst. ‘I will be sad about that for the rest of my life.’ The children help Plagman make the puppets and they perform the stories they have written themselves, based on their experiences. Vizar plays the masked man: ‘I kick in the door and destroy everything.’
