Just after the war, the newsreels dominated all film production in Poland. The documentary production came under the news section. Although this in itself could be considered questionable, it was a fact that in spite of, and sometimes even thanks to, the news material the Polish documentaries could be of high quality. proves this. Due to its carefully thought out perspectives and artistic form, this documentary distinguishes itself from the weekly news that preceded it and which also commented on the great flood in Poland. which was compiled from the same shots as the news programme, was released as a special episode of the weekly news. Bossak designed a system of editing from which he created an impressionist documentary that gives the images an impressive plasticity, without stylizing them.
After was the second Polish documentary to reap international success. The film was extensively distributed abroad and was awarded the prize for the best documentary at the Cannes Festival of 1947.
