Cesar's Bark Canoe
Bernard Gosselin
Canada
1971
The Manouane Reservation, a few hundred kilometres to the north of Montreal, houses many craftsmen. Fascinated by the craftmanship, intelligence and pureness of César Newashish, a 67 year old Indian who lives on the Reservation, Gosseling filmed how Newashish fashioned a canoe without the help of nail or glue. The film follows the creation of this very useful item step by step.
