Fail in Love
Dating apps like Tinder and Happn are used by 180 million people worldwide, and this is producing a lot of strange encounters—from unpredictable dates to awkward moments, odd locations and peculiar quirks. A swipe to the right is a chance for romance, but also for a bizarre or hilarious story.
Renée Greusard collected anecdotes in the latter category to paint a picture of the situations that these apps can bring about. Cécile Rousset, Romain Blanc-Tailleur and their team of animators then made them into an engaging series of animations that charts the contemporary world of sex, love and relationships. At IDFA DocLab the first episodes of this ongoing series will be presented.
The abstract and flowing nature of animation stimulates the imagination and makes the stories recognizable for everyone, so you can readily empathize with somebody else’s weird dates. Experience how it feels if someone you don’t find the least bit attractive reels you in much further than you ever intended, or if you say something that can be taken completely the wrong way. These are situations in which you only want one thing: to get out of there fast.
