Kerkhof looks at serial killers as a culture-related phenomenon. According to the director, who was born in South Africa, serial killers, and people's fascination with them, are symptomatic of the end of modern civilisation. The apparent aimlessness of the killings is the most disquieting aspect, since it undermines the faith in people's rationality.
