Festival history

Ian Kerkhof (30) is interested in violence and sexuality. The way he treats these subjects make him into a controversial filmmaker. TEN MONOLOGUES FROM THE LIVES OF THE SERIAL KILLERS blends fiction and reality in a combination of found footage, porn movies, documentary shots, actors who recite prose and poetry fragments, and sound fragments of interviews with notorious serial killers, like Ted Bundy, who killed at least nineteen women. Kerkhof looks at serial killers as a culture-related phenomenon. According to the director, who was born in South Africa, serial killers, and people's fascination with them, are symptomatic of the end of modern civilisation. The apparent aimlessness of the killings is the most disquieting aspect, since it undermines the faith in people's rationality.
