Festival history

Hertha Einstein-Nathorff is the last surviving member of the famous Einstein family. She used to be a famous doctor in Berlin before the Second World War. She came to New York in 1940 as a Jew fleeing annihilation at the hands of the nazis. Traumspuren is not just another story about a famous emigrant. The film focuses on the fact that emigration from Nazi-Germany might have saved many lives physically, but little is mentioned of the emotional cost. How many emigrants have been broken in their souls through being forced out of the culture and environment which was their home? As the camera visits all the places of Hertha Einstein-Nathorff's diary, it reveals in a personal and moving way that immigration does not always mean inner peace. The 97 year old Hertha has lived for more than half a century in a country that she could never love as much as the country of her family and her youth. With this understanding came the sad and tragic realization that she could never return to Germany even after Nazi times.
