Festival history

In ONE STEP AWAY Ed Pincus and David Neuman depict the weal and woe of the members of a commune in California. It is 1967 and the easy-going hippie life style is at its peak. Traditional relationships, working alliances and family ties seem to have been replaced by a dissipated atmosphere full of sex and drugs and rock’n’roll. Pincus and Neuman made a ‘couple’ from the Californian commune into the main characters of their film. Owing to their unemphatic shooting method (ONE STEP AWAY is one of the milestones in the history of the American direct cinema), they managed to subtly raise issues like parenthood, education and drug use.
