Not My Living Self
What happens to your life if you lose control, when hope is stifled by insecurity? The policy of western European governments with regard to refugees has changed dramatically. In the past few years it has become increasingly restrictive. The film not my living self was made in Rotterdam, but it could have been shot in countless other western European countries.
The documentary deals with the experiences and stories of eight refugees. A number of them have just arrived in a state of shock; others have been waiting for five years, and one of them is a man who has just lost his case and now stays in Holland illegally.
The makers, Jet Homoet and Simon Wilkie, used the Dutch land and cityscape to express the thoughts and feelings of the refugees.
