Si me comprendieras
The Cuban filmmaker and scriptwriter Rolando Díaz, who is living in Spain, is looking for a black actress and dancer for the leading role in his new film, a musical comedy. Instead of casting a professional actress from the well-known circles, he starts a search in the streets of Havana. In this way, he hopes to find a female lead with the spontaneity and authenticity he thinks he will need for his project. Ten women are selected. The director goes and visits them at their homes and asks them to tell about their lives and dreams to the camera, which they do with a surprising honesty and frankness. By means of the portraits of these ten young black women, gradually an image arises of the daily life in present-day Cuba, with all its problems of unemployment, poverty and racism, where the portrayed women have a hard time holding out.
