Not only France and Bulgaria have cities called Brest, on the Russian-Polish border there is yet another city by that name, which history has not left undisturbed in the twentieth century. Taking Brest train-station as a starting point, former East German filmmaker Gerd Kroske looks back on the past. Archive footage from Russia and contemporary images of war graves visualise the tragedies of this century. Personal recollections by people upon whom history has had not mercy bring the historical events back to life.
