The piropo was once defined by an anonymous popular poet as the "improvised madrigal". Among other things, a madrigal is a short poem in a gentle and intimate mood. Initially, its contents were rustic-idyllic, later on also didactic and satirical. A piropo is a sexually slanted remark made by men and directed to women passing by in the street. Half seriously, half in jest, some aspects of this phenomenon are analysed in EL PIROPO. The various forms of the piropo, its origin and development are discussed. Furthermore, the film draws attention to the influence of the revolution on its imagery.
