The Ride
It’s a clear and starry night. The road markings are lighting up with reassuring regularity, and there’s no option but to drive slowly on the narrow road. We only see the view through the windshield, but from the sparse dialogue we know we are in the company of a man and a woman, and that they’re on an island. They’re on her their way to a place where something bad happened long ago.
It’s unclear what exactly occurred, and why it’s so significant. Perhaps it’s not important to know. The Ride is all about the response to the relived experience. The visual landscape of impersonal Google Earth satellite images counterbalances the emotional charge of the short, low-key sentences and the sound of an amplified heartbeat driving towards a dramatic climax. This cinematic experience carries us along, while leaving enough space for the imagination.
