Daguerréotypes
Agnès Varda
France
1975
80 min
A film about a neighbourhood, shot in the street where Agnès Varda lives (rue Daguerre), in the open shops of the shopkeepers. This is not an extensive study of the people who live there, rather a modest and local document about some small shopkeepers. It is not a film about the picturesque rue Daguerre in the 14th district, it is about a part of rue Daguerre, about life 'between' the numbers 70 and 90. There is ample attention for the views of the silent majority. Agnès Varda says about this film: 'It is an album of the neighbourhood, with portraits of the stereotype Daguerreotypes, which can be regarded as social-archaeological documents'.
