Toute la memoire du monde

a film about the Bibliothè-que Nationale in Paris, made by order of the Foreign Secretary. The immense library is pictured as a human body. In the belly, eys and digestive organs of this building we are shown everything that takes place between the arrival of a book and the moment it is deposited for inspection. The alternately humerous and serious pictures do not only provide information. They emphasise the grotesque absurdity of pursuit of univerasal knowledge, as well as the necessity to keep the cultural heritage open and alive. The latter can be interpreted in numerous ways. Comic strips, a book from the 'La Petite Planète' series edited by Chris Marker, is part of it.
