Een koninklijk gezelschap
EEN KONINKLIJK GEZELSCHAP is a documentary film in five parts about the Royal Concertgebouworkest. For almost a year flmmaker Roel van Dalen accompanied the orchestra. He and his camera crew were present during a large number of rehearsals, concerts, auditions, CD recording sessions, board meetings and all kinds of commercial activities. He also escorted the orchestra to South Korea, China and Japan on their highly prestigious tour of the Far East in September 1996. This documentary does not by definition centre around the music, but rather around the people who are part of the collective. For example, it looks at a conflict between the commercial and the artistic management and we see how tension mounts between chief conductor Riccardo Chailly and the orchestra because many feel that the pressure of work has been too high for weeks.
