I Don't Wanna Live This Life
In , a group of young people in Sweden learn the hard waythat the party drug GHB usually leads to misery. The documentary follows a group of close friends from Gothenburg, who started experimenting with drugs at an early age. The filmmakers first met Henke, Sebbe, and Jonny 10 years ago. Jonny recently committed suicide -- the latest in a long line to do so. In shock following his death, Henke and Sebbe took large amounts of GHB, in spite of the risks: these include slipping into a coma, psychotic symptoms, fear, and depression. Some time later, the filmmakers discover that Henke is in prison, pumped full of medication to keep him quiet. He is no longer aggressive and delusional, but has put on 30 kilos and comes across as lifeless. Failed suicide attempts only lead to more medication. In Sebbe's mind, "They didn't take it seriously. Then again, nobody took Jonny seriously when he said he would jump." Little remains of the lanky, pubescent young tough guys of 10 years before. Every now and again, the filmmaker comments on what is going on, but for the most part the film allows the shocking story of these young men to speak for itself.
