In an African fable about the origin of the tide, it is told how a hyena and a mudskipper hold a drinking bout to decide who may consider the coastline as his territory. However, the god Mungu did not allow this contest and lifted the earth, so that the seawater flowed inland and neither of the two animals could win. Thus, ebb and flood came into being and all the animals could feed near the coastline, but none could stay there for long. TALE OF THE TIDES tells the story of the animals and plants that are more or less dependent on the tide. What exactly happens with those plants and animals above and below sea level?
