Driving me Crazy
In general, the director of a film is, in addition to many other things, a trouble-shooter. But while making a film about a musical, director Broomfield literally 'shot' his own problems.
The story starts with the assignment to make a film about the production of the musical 'Body and Soul', which cost several millions. Broomfield accepts the assignment and starts shooting the rehearsals of the piece. Things soon go wrong. The budget is cut back to eighty percent, a quarrel about the script starts, and the electricians keep blowing the fuses. One of the choreographers of 'Body and Soul' threatens suicide, another one receives a blow to the head by a camera and a third attacks the film crew.
Fortunately, Broomfield decides to make a virtue of necessity. He turns the camera 180 degrees to put himself and the producer's desperate efforts to make yet something of the film on the screen. "" (L.A. Weekly).
