Many old civilisations had sex as an integral part of religious practise. The Tantra tradition in India and Nepal, as well as Chinese Taoism considered sex a direct road to spiritual enlightenment. In pre-Christian Europe, too, there were religions that stimulated sex, nature and fertility. That old mysterious eroticism has been re-surfacing over the last decade. Sexual research is turning away from functional orientation, and moving towards ecstasy, control of the seminal discharge, and meditative sex. SACRED SEX explores the fun, the fantasy, and the spiritual aspects of making love in women’s groups, at seminars in Hawaii and the sex shows led by Annie Sprinkle. The film offers a glance at another world of sexuality.
