Who Cares
Broomfield‘s first film proves that what urban developers and property developers come up with does not always fit the needs of the people who have to live in their projects. Who Cares deals with an old district in the British city of Liverpool, which is redeveloped by order of the local authorities. The residents are forced to all move at the same time to a flat complex in the suburbs. Elderly people, young families, people who have lived in the same house for generations are suddenly coerced to relocate. The filmmaker does not take a clear stand, but because of its atmosphere the film raises many questions, and at the time it gave rise to a broad public debate about the methods used for redeveloping slums, and about the desirability of such operations.
