Les Borges
The Borges Family
Marilu Mallet

1978
To burn one's bridges on arrival in America is not easy. The famous Spanish conqueror Cortéz did this, but the 20th century Portuguese family Borges choose not to. They still retain their family home in Portugal in case one of them wishes to return. However, they likewise wish to integrate and build a future in Canada. The viewer is treated to scenes of everyday difficulties and the contrast of holidays and parties. A subtle portrait of one of many families who cross the sea in search of a new life.
