I, Soldier

Full of devotion, a high-ranking Turkish officer recites a poem about the merits of soldiers. On the National Holiday for Youth and Sports, he shouts out to a stadium full of people that a soldier can do just about anything, but one thing is impossible: "A soldier may not die." On the other half of this split screen film, we see the attractive face of a soldier as it turns very slowly. Together these images unintentionally reveal the vulnerability of the soldier. is part of a series of short films about Turkish nationalism.
