Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man

In 2002, a successful concert tour was organised revolving around the songs of Leonard Cohen. Some of the foremost international musicians participated, including Anthony, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Nick Cave, Beth Orton and Teddy Thompson. The recording of one of these shows in Sydney, Australia forms the basis of the music documentary . Behind the scenes, director Lian Lunson talked with the artists who were interpreting Cohen's songs and interviewed Cohen himself, who was 72 at the time. The concert recording and interviews are accompanied by grainy black-and-white archive footage and photographs. The artists play a substantial number of classics from the Cohen repertoire, with prominent roles for Nick Cave () and Rufus Wainwright (). All artists perform the songs with remarkable intensity and express great admiration for the master's work. Like U2's Bono, who does a duet with Cohen especially for the film. In Bono's words, "The rest of us would be very humbled by the stuff he throws away." Cohen himself reveal a large dose of perspective, like when he reads from the preface to the Chinese translation of his novel . In his mind, it's "more a sunstroke than a book."
