Festival history

Every corner of the world has now been mapped, from the remotest deserts to the highest mountains. Yet beneath the earth’s surface, accessible only through crevices, lies a largely unknown world. Speleologists Pam and Tim Fogg have helped reveal the wonders of these caves. The couple travel the world to guide crews in the making of natural history and exploration documentaries, such as the BBC series Frozen Planet and Seven Worlds, One Planet.

In the VR production Buried in the Rock, we descend with the Foggs to great depths, where darkness surrounds us like a velvet blanket. The speleologists talk about the geological information stored in the caves, the dangers associated with their work, and the tranquility they experience in places of total seclusion.

What makes this underground tour even more intense is the realization that any human presence in these caves disrupts an ancient natural balance, which means they must be protected from physical visits as much as possible. But through the power of VR you can still experience them, led by these two extraordinary guides.
