Back in the 19th century people already questioned the use of prison sentences."That only produces more criminals", was the criticism. Nowadays there are specialtraining programmes intended to help imprisoned criminals to escape the often viciouscircle of their existence.Big boys don't Cry follows seven hardened criminals ? bank robbers and drugaddicts among them ? in the Norwegian Ostokrets fengsel prison during one suchrehabilitation programme. Some of them have been in gangland since their teens. After a seven?month intensive training programme the participants in the project areoffered a job and a house. But for them it is often harder to survive in the 'normal'world than it is to hold out in the 'hard' world of prisons and crime.
