Gipsy in the Flower
is the story of a beekeeping couple that travels 10,000 kilometers each year from the south of China to the north, heading wherever the flowers bloom. Because of their nomadic existence, Chen Aimin and Zhou Fengxia lead an isolated life together, worrying about how to care for Chen Aimin's disabled brother and their own child, who barely gets to play with other kids. Their daily routine consists of working with the bees, an afternoon nap, washing, eating, and repair work in and around the mobile hut they call home. Without TV, the only recreation is the occasional trip to the local market. And as if their life on the road, with the constant loading and unloading of heavy crates, were not hard enough, the beekeepers are also struggling with the economic crisis, which means prices are 40 percent lower. All the same, the people in still manage to laugh on a regular basis -- not only at Zhou Fengxia's jokes, but also as they are trying to calculate the honey prices. Their daily life is filmed in a casual, observational style, interspersed with interviews in home-movie fashion.
