Im Grenzgebiet
A group of youngsters finds an abandoned police station on a former no man's land in the border region between West and East Germany, which they convert into a clubhouse. After school and working hours, they gather here to chat and drink a little. When they learn about the plan to equip an old army barracks in the area as a centre for people who have requested asylum, the tone of the conversations changes. They are determined to sabotage the plan. Claas Danielson registers how in the case of disillusioned youngsters play and bragging can degenerate into brute violence. Danielson: "The worst of the whole case was that all these young people totally agreed on the issue. They feel that foreigners are not really human beings but cattle or animals, so it is quite all right to beat them. Due to a mixture of prejudices, disinformation, unemployment and a lack of perspective, such events occur. That is the aim of my film: to show the way completely normal youngsters live and think."
