Going Up
is a film about the construction of a skyscraper on Manhattan's Wall Street waterfront. Over a period of 18 months, eight time-lapse cameras recorded the growth of the skyscraper from various wide angles: on the building site itself, as well as at a great distance away from it.
The sound is made up of candid conversations, which are both poignant and humorous. In the editing, diverse rhythms of fifteen new music composers were added. Finally, the ingredients of sound and image were mixed together in a very peculiar and artistic manner. The audience can watch the drama of high steel construction in detail via slow-motion, real time, and pixilated cinematography, executed with a highly remarkable camera treatment. The end product is an original film.
