Renildo & Vanildo
In their village in Guinea-Bissau, everyone knows the twins Renildo and Vanildo, because they’re always dancing. Mama Dila takes care of them in the village, because their mother died when they were only a year old. They only see their hardworking father once in a while. They’re going to visit him again soon, and as a surprise they want to dance for him. Their father’s approval is very important to them, so they practice a lot. But he’s mainly focused on their grades—will he also like their dancing? Bamba, the best dancer in town, gives “Re” and “Va” a pep talk in the hair salon.
When the twins are sitting with their father and shyly answering his questions, it’s a striking contrast to their cool and confident dancing back in the village, in their sunglasses, imagining themselves in a music video. Yet they dare to dance for him, because together they’re stronger.
