The Pavilion kicks off the new year with an 'incomplete' retrospective of the iconic American production house Kartemquin.

For nearly six decades, Kartemquin Films has set the standard for documentary storytelling, uncovering social issues through deeply personal and compelling narratives. Founded in the late 1960s by Stan Karter, Jerry Temaner, and Gordon Quinn in Chicago, it began as a collective of filmmakers with a shared vision: creating vérité films that amplify the voices of marginalized communities.

Today, Kartemquin stands as the longest-running independent documentary production house in the U.S. With iconic titles like Hoop Dreams (1993) and The Interrupters (2011), the studio remains committed to its mission: to confront, challenge, and inspire action by offering profound insight into society.
