The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and IDFA Bertha Fund (IBF) are delighted to announce that Ramsey Nasr has joined the Supervisory Board.

Ramsey Nasr (1974) is one of the most versatile artists in the Netherlands, known for his acting, poetry and writing. He has performed on stage in productions including The Fountainhead and A Little Life, on television in series such as IM, Het jaar van Fortuyn and Oogappels, as well as in films such as Alles op Tafel (2021). In his acclaimed collection of essays De Fundamenten (2021, De Bezige Bij), Nasr takes stock of the Netherlands during the coronavirus pandemic and makes an artists’ entreaty for a radical revision of our place on earth and our idea of happiness.

Marry de Gaay Fortman, chair of the Supervisory Board: “Ramsey has an impressive track record in the art world both in the Netherlands and internationally, and is an important voice for our era. He has an immense dedication to society, which is a good fit with IDFA and the IDFA Bertha Fund. Ramsey will play a significant role for the Supervisory Board in many areas.”

Nasr regularly adds his voice to the debate on the value of art and culture within Dutch society, including in a poem he wrote as Poet of the Fatherland at the time of the wave of funding cuts in the cultural sector; a line from this serves as his personal motto: “out of unnecessary necessity / art created humanity”.

Alongside Nasr, the Supervisory Board is made up of Sandra den Hamer, Henk Siebren de Jong, Michael Kembel, Femke van der Laan, Julia Noordegraaf and Orçun Ersungur (trainee). The chair is Marry de Gaay Fortman.

The Board of Directors of IDFA is made up of Artistic Director Orwa Nyrabia and Managing Director Cees van ‘t Hullenaar. Isabel Arrate Fernandez is Deputy Director of IDFA and director-board member of the IDFA Bertha Fund.
