Documentaries tell stories that are otherwise not told. They challenge you, encourage you to form an opinion and make you curious. Thanks to documentaries, we can empathize with people all over the world and start conversations. In this way, documentaries lead to dialogue and ultimately to mutual understanding.
We need your support to enable filmmakers to tell their stories and bring their documentaries to Amsterdam.
Support IDFA as a Special Friend
With the support of Special Friends, we provide a very diverse program and interesting discussions. We also organize talent development programs for filmmakers, educational programs for pupils and students and we support independent filmmakers in the production of their film through the IDFA Bertha Fund. With the support of filmmakers affiliated with the IDFA Bertha Fund, we ensure that we also see stories in countries where freedom of expression is under threat. And that there are stories that are made from within society by filmmakers who are often part of it themselves.
Special Friends of IDFA meet each other on unique evenings in Amsterdam. The films and Q&As on all these evenings provide a special depth and always provide a substantive conversation. And the nice thing is, you can always bring someone with you to share the experience.

Special Friends are invited all year round for 2 people for Special Friends events in the IDFA Vondelpark Pavilion and for special film screenings during the festival.
