Januari 31: Pavilion Shorts
A curated program of four inspiring and moving international short documentaries from previous IDFA editions.
Pavilion Shorts
Pavilion Shorts brings four interesting, thought-provoking, curious and beautiful international short documentaries from earlier editions of IDFA to the big screen. New and old films explore timeless stories, address topical issues or introduce worlds you had no idea existed. The selection examines different ways we document the world around us through moving, striking or funny films.
Nenad
Mladen Bundalo - Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina - 2020 - 22 min.
As an emigrant, Mladen Bundalo still feels drawn to his native country, no matter how much Bosnia and Herzegovina has changed. As he follows the life of Nenad, who is also about to emigrate, he explains his dilemmas with poetic precision.
Cause of Death
Jyoti Mistry - Oostenrijk, Zuid-Afrika - 2020 - 20 min.
A timeless and universal phenomenon: violence against women. This rhythmic montage of women’s bodies from archive footage and animation accompanied by a spoken lament produces an experience that is almost hypnotic.
Unforgivable
Marlén Viñayo - El Salvador - 2020 - 36 min.
Geovanny became a gang member and a murderer when he was 12. In prison, he joined an evangelical church that lavished God’s forgiveness on him. However, one sin is unforgivable for both the gang and the church: Geovanny is gay.
The Bodies
Eloy Domínguez Serén - Spain - 2020 - 11 min.
A compelling visit to the traditional Carnival in Galicia, in northwestern Spain, just ten days before the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in the region—adding another layer of significance to the nighttime scenes of the partying crowd.
