The Devil's Lair

Thousands of un-rehabilitated prisoners get released every month, many becoming the bone and marrow of the drug trade of Cape Town, the main source of income for gangs and the root from where most other violent crimes stem. The only legal way for ordinary citizens to fight, is by volunteering in Neighborhood Watch structures. Many volunteers have been killed during retaliation attacks, further adding to the unwavering crime statistics. With every confrontation, tension escalates. Through extraordinary access, we explore the stark contrasting realities of a communities' struggle against crime and the life choices of ex-convicts surviving in the underworld.
