During the 19th century the sport of running through the snow by use of a racquet-shoe became very popular. Competitions were held, and Indians in particular excelled. Nowadays skiing is the most popular winter sport, but many clubs still exist which pay tribute to this old sport, particularly in French speaking Canada. In 1958 a meeting of these clubs took place in Sherbrooke, Québec, and a film crew present shot the proceedings.
