Even the fiercest critic of socialism cannot suppress a slight feeling of admiration for what has been achieved in economically isolated and underdeveloped Cuba. This admiration has only been slightly diminished by the exodus of Cubans in the summer of 1980, especially in view of dozens of them restoring to plane hijacking in order to return a few months later.
Political and military events become history and are recorded in memory. The nameless millions who make these events possible are easily forgotten, often just used. This movie shows their day-to-day labor as it is - neither pro or contra - in order to make us understand why some of them want to leave and why others stay.
The Cuban worker searching for the delicate balance between democracy and discipline, contenment and aversion, self-awareness and apathy. Just like us.
