El abuelo Cheno... y otras historias
In 1920 the people of Mexico rose in revolt against the oppression and exploitation by the large landowners, who were backed by the catholic church. The social outburst would go down in history as the 'National Revolution' and put a end to many feudal practices. In el abuelo cheno... filmmaker Juan Carlos Rulfo, son of writer Juan Rulfo, goes back to this period. The foremost reason was Rulfo's search for the childhood years of his father, who died in 1986. He discovered that a family drama had taken place against the background of the chaotic twenties. The hacienda, where Rulfo's father grew up as a child, was set on fire more than once and Rulfo's grandfather was shot dead in 1923. In the dilapidated hacienda he meets a few old men, who tell him about the horrible past.
